From initial outreach to funds in your hand

Recovering unclaimed funds is rarely as simple as filling out a form. Different types of custodians have different evidentiary standards, different claim forms, and different ways of saying “no” if the paperwork doesn’t match. Here is what working with us actually looks like.

1. We identify the funds

Before we ever reach out to anyone, our research team has already identified a specific dollar amount being held under a specific name. This isn’t speculative. It’s a documented record. We do the work of cross-referencing identifying information and supporting documents to confirm we’ve matched the funds to the right person or estate before contacting anyone.

2. We reach out

If we believe you (or a relative) are the rightful owner of unclaimed funds, we contact you. The initial outreach is usually a letter or phone call. We tell you that funds are being held under a name we have reason to believe is connected to you, the approximate amount, the timeline we anticipate, and the portion of the proceeds we will ask you to assign to us, enough for you to evaluate the trade. We do not disclose the specifics (the custodian, the case or instrument, the procedural path, or the documents required) until you have signed the assignment agreement. That information is the core of what we offer, and disclosing it earlier would defeat the business case for our work. You are under no obligation to sign.

3. You decide whether to proceed

There’s no pressure to sign anything during a first call. We expect you’ll want to verify that we are who we say we are (we’ll provide the names and bar numbers of the principals), talk to family members or your own attorney, and take time to read the assignment agreement carefully. If you’re not comfortable, the conversation simply ends.

4. You sign the assignment agreement

If you decide to proceed, we send you a written agreement that assigns a portion of the recoverable proceeds to us. It specifies the portion you are assigning, that we are not acting as your attorneys, the recovery work we will perform once the specifics are disclosed, and how funds will be distributed and your portion paid to you.

5. We do the recovery work

After the agreement is signed, we handle the recovery: preparing and filing the claim, producing supporting documentation, responding to follow-up requests, coordinating any court proceedings the recovery requires, and retaining or referring local counsel where the claim crosses jurisdictions or requires court appearance outside Ohio.

6. Funds are released and accounted for

When the funds are released, our agreement controls the distribution, and we provide you with a written accounting showing the gross amount received, our contingency share, any necessary third-party costs, and the net amount paid to you.

This is a description of our typical process, not a guarantee. Every recovery is different. Some claims, despite careful preparation, are denied. In those cases you owe us nothing, but the time invested by both sides is not refundable in any other form.
